How Do I Get My Alarm Company Found in AI Search?
Being named in a ChatGPT or Google answer works like a second top of Google, and you can't pay your way into it. This 13-week plan shows an alarm dealer where to spend about two hours a week to become easier to name.
An alarm company gets found in AI search the same way it earns a referral: other people say the same true things about it, in enough places that ChatGPT and Google can confirm them. You can't pay to be named inside the answer, and nobody can promise you a spot. You can do the work that makes you easy to name, and about two hours a week for one quarter covers the first pass.
That's 26 hours over 13 weeks. This is how we'd spend them.
Why does being named in an AI answer matter to an alarm company?
Top of Google used to mean the ads, then the three companies in the map box. Google started putting AI answers in US search results in May 2024, and when one shows up it sits above the regular results. ChatGPT added live web search that October. A homeowner can now ask who to call for a monitored alarm near them and read a short list of names before seeing a single link.

Four questions a property owner would actually type, asked today with live web search. You see every company name that came back, in order, and whether yours was one of them. Four draws on one day, not a ranking. Leave your email and we will send it over, then walk you through what it found.
That short list works like the map box did. It only has room for a few companies, and the buyer may never scroll past it. Regular Google still brings in plenty of calls, so keep doing what works there. Treat the AI answer as a second top of Google, one you don't bid on.
| Google ads | Named in an AI answer | |
|---|---|---|
| How you get there | You bid and pay per click | Reviews, listings and other websites back you up |
| What the buyer sees | A labeled ad | Your name in the answer |
| When you stop | The calls from ads stop with the budget | The work stays online, though answers keep changing |
What should I do in the first two weeks?
Find out where you stand before you change anything. Write down six questions a buyer in your area would ask, like "best alarm company in [your town]" or "who monitors home alarms near [your county]." Ask each one in ChatGPT and in Google. That gives you 12 answers. Mark how many name you, and write down who shows up instead.
Our post on how to check if AI recommends your alarm company walks through the method.
Run the AI crawler check the same week. Your site may turn away the crawlers that collect pages to train AI models, and that's a small matter because live lookups still work. If it turns away the readers ChatGPT sends to answer a live question, have your web person fix that first.
How do I clean up my listings in weeks three and four?
Start with your Google Business Profile, because Google reads it directly. Check the phone number, the hours and the area you serve. Then check the primary category. A company that installs and monitors alarms shouldn't sit under a category like manufacturer.
After that, work through your website footer, Facebook, Yelp, the BBB and your chamber of commerce page. Ten listings at 30 minutes each comes to five hours, so two weeks is enough for most companies.
The usual find is an old phone number on a chamber page nobody has opened in years. The other one is "Security Systems LLC" on one site and plain "Security" on the next. Pick one version of your name and use it everywhere.
If your state licenses alarm contractors, put your license number on your website and in your listings. A buyer can look it up, and it's one more fact that matches across sources.
What should go on my website in weeks five through eight?
Write one page a week, four pages in all. Each page answers a question your office already gets on the phone. Good ones to start with:
- Do I need an alarm permit in [your town], and what happens after a false alarm?
- What does monitoring cost with your company each month?
- Can you take over the system the last owner left in my house?
- What happens to my alarm when I move?
Keep each page to 300 to 600 words of plain text, with the towns you actually serve written out. Use your real numbers and your real policy. The permit page has to carry your town's actual rule and fee, so call the city clerk before you write it. A wrong fee on your own site costs you more than a missing page.
How many reviews and outside mentions do I need this quarter?
No published number tells you when ChatGPT starts naming a company. Aim for a steady flow, and start on day one instead of waiting for your turn on this calendar.
Take a labeled example. Say you finish 20 jobs a month and one customer in five leaves a review. That's 4 a month, or 12 by the end of the quarter, and all of them are recent. Text the link within an hour of the job. Ask every customer, because Google's review policy doesn't let you pick only the happy ones. Our free review request kit has the wording.
Give the last five weeks to mentions on sites you don't own. Two or three real ones is a fair goal. Try your state alarm association's member list, the dealer locator of a brand you carry if it has one, or the Little League team whose sponsor page should already have your name on it. Skip any service that offers to blast you onto hundreds of directories.
How will I know if it's working at the end of the quarter?
In week 13, ask the same six questions in the same two places and fill in the same sheet. For example, a company named in 1 of 12 answers in week one might see 3 of 12. Answers shift from day to day, so watch the direction over several months. Some markets move in a quarter and some take longer.
Add one line to your intake sheet as well: "How'd you hear about us?" Write down the caller's exact words. The day someone says "ChatGPT told me to call you," you'll know the sheet isn't the only thing moving.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I have to stop my Google Ads to do this?
No. Ads bring in calls this month, and this work takes longer to show up. Run both, and judge the ads on their own numbers.
Can my office manager handle this?
Mostly, yes. Listings and review texts are easy to hand off. The owner should read the question pages before they go live, since customers will hold you to what they say.
Should I pay a company that guarantees ChatGPT will name me?
No. Nobody controls those answers, so a guarantee tells you what you need to know about the seller. Ask what they'll actually do each month and how you'd measure it. If you want to go deeper on what gets a company named, read why ChatGPT recommends some security companies and not others.
Where do I start?
Start with your number. Run the free check to see whether AI names your company when a local buyer asks, then use the plan above to work on what it turns up.
